D.F. Maher Architects-Builders has been involved in Insulated Concrete Form (ICF) design & Construction Management (CM) since 1992. The CM process alone can save our clients up to fifteen percent of the cost of construction. The Little Big House , awarded "Wisconsin Home of the Year", is an Insulated Concrete Form (ICF) home that offers the ultimate in terms of space, energy efficiency and amenities that we have ever designed and built for the dollar. It occupies the same footprint as that of a fifteen hundred square foot ranch but offers thirty eight hundred square feet of finished usable space. Because of its unique design this home builds at the lowest cost per square foot of any of our ICF homes. Complete with wonderfully warm hydronic radiant floor heating, the home is so energy efficient that it can save you forty percent of your utility costs. We call it efficient elegance within reach. PROJECT DESIGN; We design all of our projects in three dimensions on computers; We actually "build" the project in virtual reality. This has many advantages; Foremost, it allows us to walk around and through the project before it is built. Changes made as a result of those "virtual experiences" cost pennies to make in the virtual world of our computers, relative to the thousands of dollars to make similar changes during construction.
Working in three dimensions also allows us to quickly explore design options that our clients can see and therefore understand in order to arrive at the best solutions. Having the design "virtually" built also greatly assists in accurate cost estimating. The estimates, which in the recent past, would take weeks to compile can now be done in minutes.
CONSTRUCTION: Once plans are complete, acting as your Construction Manager, we bid them to all of the subcontractors that are needed to complete the home. There are usually two or three competitive bids for each sub speciality; plumbing, electrical, framing etc. and you see them all. Once construction begins , under our direction, we submit monthly draws to your Title Company which, along with your lender, pays the subcontractors and suppliers directly. We never handle your money and you see where every dollar goes and what it pays for. In this way we can guarantee you the best home for your dollar. Working as your Construction Manager and utilizing the efficiencies of our computerized design, we can save our clients up to twenty percent of the cost of construction when compared to standard construction.<script type="text/javascript"><!--
